We are all designed with an innate ability and intelligence to achieve the highest feelings of awe and wonder towards the Creator by looking at the world around us, as did Abraham our patriarch when he looked up to the heavens and saw the handiwork of an infinite universe.
This is what Moses meant when told the people, “And now Israel, what is it that G-d requires of you but the feeling of awe and reverence”
Rabbi Joseph Haim was once asked by a visitor, ‘how can one attain the feeling of awe and reverence to the Creator?’ The Rabbi pulled the curtain away from the window and said, ‘how can one not?’ King David said “The heavens tell the glory of the Creator and announces the work of His hands” The sense of his infinite Majesty can be glimpse by the awesomeness of His creation.
“The beginning of wisdom is the reverence of G-d”, or in other words, the simple exercise of wisdom will result in the feeling of adoration .
The Talmud says that we could have reached some Torah concepts on our own through the observation of nature. We could have learnt not to steal by observing the behavior of ants , or modesty from cats, and marital fidelity from doves. Unaided, human intelligence is capable of grasping fundamental truths of the Architect by observing the world He fashioned.
