Theater Conservatory (34981)

This course offers high-level training in performance and theater arts under the direction of a leading dramatic arts faculty member. This course will develop students’ confidence, stage presence, and collaboration through acting, singing and dancing, culminating with an end-of-year performance. Students cover the fundamentals of theatre performance and classical stage technique, such as voice, movement, and character development. Students will explore character development and performance styles from different historical periods. A revue of different scenes from classic playwrights such as Aristophanes, Shakespeare, and Moliere, as well as contemporary playwrights will be presented. The end-of-year performance will be a series of scenes and monologues from classic theatre pieces such as The Tempest, Merchant of Venice, Three Sisters, and/or Pygmalion. Kevin Gallagher taught at the Dalton School for twenty-five years where he served as a teacher and English department chair before assuming the role of primary theater instructor/director. Mr. Gallagher has directed over twenty-five productions, spanning Shakespearean classics to modern hits. At Arc Stages, he has directed and contributed to their New Play Festival, showcasing his commitment to nurturing talent and advancing theatrical innovation. He is also the creator of several new and original musicals. Kevin Gallagher is a graduate of The London Academy of Music and Dramatics Arts (LAMDA) with an MA from Hunter College (CUNY).
