Floyd Collins

May 7, 2025 8:00:00 PM

Floyd Collins is a gripping musical based on the true story of a cave explorer trapped 200 feet underground in Kentucky in 1925. While attempting to turn Sand Cave into a tourist attraction, Floyd (Jeremy Jordan) becomes the main attraction himself. As the media frenzy grows, Floyd fights for his life, with only sporadic contact with the outside world, including his brother Homer.

With a haunting score by Adam Guettel (The Light in the Piazza) and direction by Tina Landau, Floyd Collins explores the dark side of the American dream through a powerful, folk-inspired narrative.

Terezín: A Lesson in Jewish Unity, Dignity, and Moral Courage

May 8, 2025 7:00:00 PM

Terezín, a ghetto used in one of the Holocaust’s most insidious deceptions, was presented as a model resettlement camp. In reality, it masked horrific suffering—especially among elderly and prominent German Jews—who were left to perish in inhumane conditions.

Amid this darkness, a remarkable story of spiritual resistance emerged. Under the leadership of Rabbi Leo Baeck and youth leader Freddy Hirsch, young Zionists upheld a powerful motto: “A Jew will never leave another Jew behind.” They created a culture of unity and compassion, caring for the vulnerable and envisioning a shared Jewish future.

Historian Pavel Batel brings this little-known history to life through rare survivor accounts and uncovered Nazi archives. His lecture sheds light on a forgotten chapter of courage, solidarity, and moral clarity—one that continues to resonate today.

About Pavel Batel
Pavel Batel is a Holocaust historian specializing in the Terezín Ghetto. After discovering his hidden Jewish roots, he dedicated his life to uncovering suppressed stories of resistance and dignity during the Holocaust. Through over 50 survivor interviews and deep archival research, Pavel’s work honors the legacy of Terezín’s heroes. He lectures worldwide and aims to bring this powerful story to screen through a detailed television series.
