This course is designed for students to appreciate and learn the techniques of great works of art as a springboard for ideas and themes to develop original works. Students will focus on masterworks from the Renaissance and Neo-Classical periods, and time permitting may include works from Ancient Greece and Rome, Impressionism, and modern American art. Mediums will include pencil, watercolor, and tempera paint. Studio art projects will develop art techniques and allow for creative expression. Art history discussions will focus on a deep understanding of works of art through careful observation, learning from peer comments, and historical context. Eve Pomerantz began her art training with a traditional apprenticeship with renowned figurative sculptor Greg Wyatt, in whose studio she trained. Eve holds an MA in art and art education from Columbia Teachers College. She interned at the Frick Collection under Rika Burnham, a pioneer in museum education. Eve has taught in the classroom for over ten years teaching middle, junior high, and high school classes at Hunter College High School, the Dalton School after-school programs, and the Sacred Heart Summer Program. She was the director of the Hunter Summer Program for the Gifted and head of the Sacred Heart Summer Program Art Department. Eve completed a bronze sculpture inspired by Shakespeare’s King Lear, which has been publicly installed in Stratford-upon-Avon since 2001.

Players are grouped by skill level, allowing them to grow and develop at their own pace. Throughout each session, children rotate through stations and work with various coaches on different skills. The group setting is ideal for scrimmages, where competitive play is used as an opportunity for coaches to critique and teach players in real-time.
